[EN] Kyoto Gion | Ramen Miyako: Refreshing Yuzu Ramen & The Most Incredible Raw Egg Rice Near Yasaka Shrine|Ryobiyori

Kyoto at night is magical. After a peaceful evening walk through Yasaka Shrine, there is no better comfort than a steaming bowl of ramen. Tucked away in the historic streets of Gion, I found Ramen Miyako (らぁ~めん京) Gion Main Store.

It’s the perfect spot to end your day with authentic flavors and a cozy local atmosphere.

📍 1. Prime Location in Gion

The restaurant is perfectly situated near Yasaka Shrine and the famous Hanami Koji (Geisha District).

  • Access: Take a bus from Kyoto Station (~22 mins) and get off at the "Gion" stop. It’s just a few steps away from the bus stop.

Walking through Gion at night and seeing the glowing red "京" (Miyako) sign felt like discovering a local secret.

📍 2. The Signature: Yuzu Zest & Mature Thin Noodles

I ordered the signature ramen, and the first thing that struck me was the refreshing aroma of Yuzu (Japanese citrus).

The broth is rich yet surprisingly clean, thanks to the citrus notes. The noodles are Kyoto’s specialty "mature thin noodles" (Jukusei-hosomen), which have a fantastic chew and soak up the savory soup perfectly. Every bite felt like a warm hug.

📍 3. The Hidden Star: Radiant Egg Over Rice (TKG)

While the ramen was great, the real surprise was the Tamago Kake Gohan (TKG) — raw egg over rice.

Look at the color of that yolk! The deep orange glow proves its freshness. Mixing it into the hot, fluffy Japanese rice creates a creamy, savory experience that is hard to describe. Paired with their crispy gyoza, it was the ultimate Japanese soul food experience.

💡 Ryobiyori’s Foodie Tips

  • Late Night Cravings: This shop stays open quite late, making it the best choice for dinner or a late-night snack after sightseeing.

  • Local Vibe: The shop is small and lively, giving you a true taste of Kyoto’s ramen culture.

  • What to order: Definitely go for a ramen with yuzu notes; it's a signature Kyoto flavor you shouldn't miss.
