【Tokyo · Sento】Takarayu: A pre-flight ritual near Haneda Airport. Recharging in a local public bath during a chilly February
In February 2025, I returned to Tokyo for another trip. Since I had an early flight from Haneda Airport the next morning, I stayed at the nearby Toyoko Inn, which has become a bit of a habit for me. Part of this pre-flight ritual is visiting "Takarayu," a local public bath (sento) in Ota City. I first visited this place in 2024, and coming back here in the middle of winter felt like the perfect way to wrap up my journey.
📍 1. A Nostalgic Sento Vibe in Ota
The first thing you do is leave your shoes in the traditional wooden lockers. I noticed that the owner at the counter seemed different from my visit in 2024, but the calm and steady atmosphere of the place remained unchanged. It’s a quiet spot loved by the local neighborhood, providing a sense of comfort that modern hotels sometimes lack.
📍 2. Modern Trends: The Tokyo Sento Collection Card
During this visit, I decided to join the latest trend among sento enthusiasts and purchased a "Tokyo Sento Collection Card." I got card #17 for Takarayu. Collecting these cards adds a fun layer to visiting different public baths across the city.
The water at Takarayu is at a perfect temperature. It helped soothe my tired muscles after days of walking around the city. Once you step out of the bath, there is one thing you absolutely must do: have a cold drink.
The lobby is filled with personal touches—a large Winnie the Pooh plush, posters of baseball star Shohei Ohtani, and a comfortable sofa. It feels less like a commercial business and more like visiting a relative's house. It was the perfect environment to relax and prepare my mind for the flight home.
