【Tokyo · Sento】Takarayu: A pre-flight ritual near Haneda Airport. Recharging in a local public bath during a chilly February

In February 2025, I returned to Tokyo for another trip. Since I had an early flight from Haneda Airport the next morning, I stayed at the nearby Toyoko Inn, which has become a bit of a habit for me. Part of this pre-flight ritual is visiting "Takarayu," a local public bath (sento) in Ota City. I first visited this place in 2024, and coming back here in the middle of winter felt like the perfect way to wrap up my journey.

📍 1. A Nostalgic Sento Vibe in Ota

Walking up to Takarayu, the weathered sign and the classic red noren (curtain) immediately bring back memories.

The first thing you do is leave your shoes in the traditional wooden lockers. I noticed that the owner at the counter seemed different from my visit in 2024, but the calm and steady atmosphere of the place remained unchanged. It’s a quiet spot loved by the local neighborhood, providing a sense of comfort that modern hotels sometimes lack.

📍 2. Modern Trends: The Tokyo Sento Collection Card

The admission fee is currently 550 JPY for adults, which is very affordable for a high-quality bath experience in Tokyo.

During this visit, I decided to join the latest trend among sento enthusiasts and purchased a "Tokyo Sento Collection Card." I got card #17 for Takarayu. Collecting these cards adds a fun layer to visiting different public baths across the city.

📍 3. The Best Way to Beat the February Cold

Soaking in a large, hot tub is the ultimate luxury during a cold February night in Tokyo.

The water at Takarayu is at a perfect temperature. It helped soothe my tired muscles after days of walking around the city. Once you step out of the bath, there is one thing you absolutely must do: have a cold drink.

I picked a bottle of "Meiji Coffee" milk from the fridge. There’s something about the sweet, creamy coffee flavor that just feels right after a hot soak. It is a quintessential part of the Japanese sento experience.

📍 4. A Homey Lobby to Wind Down

After the bath, I spent some time in the lobby area to let my body cool down.

The lobby is filled with personal touches—a large Winnie the Pooh plush, posters of baseball star Shohei Ohtani, and a comfortable sofa. It feels less like a commercial business and more like visiting a relative's house. It was the perfect environment to relax and prepare my mind for the flight home.

📍 Store Information & Address

Name: Takarayu (宝湯)
Address: 3-4-8 Higashikojiya, Ota City, Tokyo
Access: About a 5-minute walk from Otorii Station (Keikyu Airport Line).

💡 Ryobiyori’s Travel Notes:
For travelers flying in or out of Haneda Airport, I highly recommend staying near Otorii Station and visiting Takarayu. While hotel baths are convenient, nothing beats the feeling of a spacious sento. They sell small towel sets at the counter, so you can go even if you didn't bring anything with you. It’s a great way to experience a slice of real Tokyo life.
